Latin America Week Environmental Talks

Woman Activist  Brings Lessons From Latin America

A peasant activist from Colombia will deliver a public talk on the subject of land use and natural resources on Thursday, 10th April, as part of the series of events for Latin America Week. The talk will also focus on themes of gender and community resistance.

The issues that will be addressed in the talk are not only of huge interest to those interested in Latin America, but are also of considerable relevance locally. “Struggles over land and its use affect communities all over the world,” . “Think of the issue of fracking in Ireland, for example. These are universal concerns.

The public talk will also concentrate on the prominent role taken by women in these struggles.  Nelly Cuadros is a small coffee producer representing the environmental organisation Asoambisur.

There will be two Public Talks in Limerick on Thursday, 10th April . One at 1:00 pm at the University of Limerick, Postgraduate Centre (near the Stables); the second talk will take place at 7:00 pm at Doctor John’s  -The Blind Pig, Thomas Street, Limerick.
